Isledon Wolves FC

Under 16

Isledon Wolves Academy (u16) squad have just completed a busy and gruelling week with games on Sunday evening ((Oct23rd) Monday evening, Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning...........four games in six days and over 400 miles of travelling!

Firstly, they trounced Soccerlution 10-0 in the prestigious London Youth Premier League at the Pavilion Hub in Harlesden where all the matches are played in an electric atmosphere  complete with entrance music, the national anthem and (in this case) under floodlights. The crowds are good and all matches are handled by a complete trio of officials resplendent in their bright orange uniforms.

The next morning it was all into the minibus  to travel up to South Yorkshire and a game at Rotherham United where Wolves' many  academy standard players played their part in a  resounding 5-3 victory with Nicki Marshall scoring two 'worldies' from over 25 yards out before being becoming the second visiting player of the night  put out out of the game result of over zealous challenging ~ joining broken toe victim Alfie Lusardi on the touchline ~ The visitors' rapid  one touch-pass & move football  being a credit to coach John Powles and a total bemusement to the professional academy opposition.

Two games in 24 hours is tough; three games in less than sixty impossible and not surprisingly it was a tired and jaded Wolves who took to the sumptuous turf of the Oakwell Training Centre adjacent to the main stadium of Barnsley FC the next day after an overnight stay in Wakefield. Mentally exhausted and soon to be physically too; the boys in black succumbed 8-1 despite fielding the England u18 goalkeeper  (courtesy of the home  club who wanted to aid his comeback from injury) in the second half. A worthwhile exercise though with two championship clubs able to run the rule over North London talent .

This Friday saw a battered and battle weary team take to the Harlesden field against the Jason Roberts Foundation ~ a team they had beaten 13-0 only three weeks before ~ and struggle to get their normal fluid passing game going despite taking an early lead through Yasen Malumba ~ running out narrow 4-3 winners in a game they were clearly finding a big effort without captain Lusardi, vice captain Anthony Dengo (groin) Nicki Marshall,  brother Deon and an enforced change of formation.
